Obituary

Sidney Douglas Smith, age 59, of Mears, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 16, 2013. He was born in Lansing, MI on January 9, 1954 to the late John and Irene (Cooley) Smith. Sid was a 1972 graduate of Lansing Eastern High School. On March 29, 1986, he married Susan White Rasor of East Lansing, who survives him. He, along with his wife, owned and operated SunChasers Souvenirs in Silver Lake. He loved music with a passion and was the former sound man for Lady Grace and other numerous bands in the Lansing area. He owned Smith's Interior Design in Lansing before moving to Mears 13 years ago. In continuing his love for music, he was actively involved in the entertainment for the Silver Lake Sand Dunes Apple & BBQ Festival. Susan and Sid loved the Silver Lake Sand Dunes area and the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. Sid was known for his terrific pie baking and the making of his father's legendary Smoked Chicken Tacos. When someone asked for Sid's help with something, they knew that he would be there to lend a hand. He also enjoyed NASCAR racing, traveling with family and friends and spending time with his grandchildren.

Sid is survived by his wife; Susan E. Smith of Mears; one son Kevin (Fiancée Krista Ely) Rasor of Montague; two brothers; Ron Corden and Mark (Lona) Smith both of Grand Ledge; two grandchildren, Granddaughter, Cari Rasor (11) Grandson, Andrew Rasor (10) of Montague; Mother-In-Law, Jean White of East Lansing; Brothers-In-Law, Gil (Kathy) White and Paul (Candy) White both of Haslett; Aunt, Roberta Smith of Lansing; several nieces and nephews and many, many special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and his father-in-law, George White.

The Memorial Service for Mr. Smith will be on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church of Hart with Pastor Mark M. Looman officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. An additional Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at 12:00 pm at Eagle Park in Eagle, MI. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be directed to the Silver Lake Sand Dunes Apple & BBQ Festival, PO Box 82, Hart, MI 49420 or the Improvements Fund of GoldNSilver Community Park, C/O Nancy Klepper, Parkside Store, 8587 West Silver Lake Road, Mears, MI 49436, in honor of Sid.
