Obituary

Stanley "Stuffy" Sessions Gwillim, 81, of Pentwater passed away Wednesday, August 11 2009, in his home. Stuffy was born December 15, 1927 in Kansas City Missouri to Harold E. Gwillim, Sr. and Grace Thompson Gwillim. He lived in Elmhurst, Illinois and Vancouver, British Columbia before moving to Pentwater in 1932. He graduated from Pentwater High School in 1945. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the United States and the Philippines thru 1947. After leaving the service he attended the University of Michigan, and finished his formal education at Western Michigan University. He graduated in 1950 with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. He married Barbara Dill on September 29, 1951 with whom he had 3 children. Stuffy worked for General Telephone in Muskegon and Blue Cross Blue Shield in Detroit before moving back to Pentwater in 1971. He owned and operated Stuffys Place in Ludington and co-owned the Antler Bar in Pentwater. He was a member of the Oceana Eagles and past member of the Pentwater Yacht Club where he was active in developing the junior sailing program. He enjoyed the Lake Michigan beach near his home. He spent March and April in Englewood Beach Florida. In his younger days he enjoyed downhill skiing, sailing and hunting. He enjoyed watching sports of all types, especially University of Michigan football. Stuffy is survived by his children Jeff (Jill) Gwillim of Traverse City, MI., Mark Gwillim of Crested Butte, CO., and Susan (Brian Bostwick) Gwillim of Littleton, CO. ; and grandchildren John, Jennifer, Christine, Michael, Austin, Lauren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law Harold E., Jr. and Earla Gwillim, and his long time companion Shirley Brown. He is also survived by Shirley's daughter Trina Brown and her children Christopher and Brittni and her grandchild Rylee. Funeral services will be held at 10:30AM on Monday August 17, 2009 at the Centenary Methodist Church, 82 South Hancock in Pentwater.
