Mrs. Stella M. Tate, age 89 of Hart, died Monday, February 22, 2010. She was born in Vulcan, Michigan on December 24, 1920 to John and Anna (Setlock) Bray. On October 9, 1943 in Hart, she married Willard Tate. Mrs. Tate received her teaching degree from County Normal and her B.A. degree from Western Michigan University. She began teaching in 1939 and retired in 1982. Her career in education spanned nearly 43 years where she taught in the following schools, many of which were one room schools, Gowdy, Cranston, Smith Corners, Sackrider, Randall, Walkerville Elementary, Whitehall Elementary and Hart Elementary Schools. Mrs. Tate was a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church, the former Ladies Auxiliary of the parish, Business and Professional Women, Oceana Hospital Board of Directors, Oceana County Retired Teachers and was an active volunteer at the Hart-Silver Lake Chamber of Commerce. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Willard Tate of Hart; their 2 daughters, Lynnette Cavazos and her friend Dennis Owens of Pentwater and Shari (Bill) Cookenmaster of Pentwater; 2 grandchildren, Sara (Jarrett) Moleski-Rice of Brighton, MI and Nick (Michele) Moleski of Kalamazoo; 4 great grandchildren, Tatum Moleski, Alexander Rice, Jackson Moleski, Elaina Moleski; 3 sisters, Louise Miller of Muskegon, Eleanor Pavlic of Muskegon, Irene Coller of Tucson, AZ; 1 sister in law, Joyce (Paul) Anderson of Pentwater; 3 brothers in law, Harold (Frances) Tate of Hart, James (Nancy) Tate of Hart, Dan Tate of Hart; several nieces and nephews and several cousins in Poland. Mrs. Tate was preceded in death by her siblings, Julia Glotzbach, Mary Unger, Sophia Vallier, Bernice Van Dyke, George Bray, Sigman Bray, Edward Bray, and Walter Bray. The Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Tate will be offered Friday, February 26, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. from St. Gregory Catholic Church with Fr. Thomas Bolster and Fr. Thomas Schiller presiding. Interment will be in the Hart Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 P.M. at the Tate-King Funeral Home, where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 P.M. Visitation Friday one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to the Oceana County Medical Care Facility or Oceana County Council on Aging.
