Susan Marie (Smith) Misner, 79, lost her battle with cancer on January 19, 2012. The daughter of Howard Keith and Lydia Mary Smith of Hart, she is survived by her sister, Patricia Bromley of Hart, and her brothers, Eugene Smith (Sue) of Irons, MI, and George Smith (Linda) of Bridgton, MI. She is mother to George Smith (Linda), Linda Summey (Larry), Terry Freeny (Sy), Thomas LaCount (Faith), Joy Dash (Reggie), Jonathon Schmidt (Sandy), Daniel Schmidt (Mala), and preceded in death by her son, Anthony Coles, and stepmother to Lonnie Schmidt (Dollie), Linda Kelly (Harry) and Ina Mae Schmidt. Known as "Grandma Sue", she was grandmother to 34 and great grandmother to 27 children.
"Suzy" was retired from General Motors, Local 651 of Lansing, where she first worked at the Forge Plant on the axle assembly line, and later became one of the first women to become a journeyman electrician. A former member of Parker Memorial Baptist Church of Lansing, where she once played organ on Sundays, Susan loved music. She was admired for her ability to play without reading the notes. She loved cooking, canning and baking. She was exceptionally talented in crocheting, knitting, and quilting where her creations have become family treasures. An avid fisherwoman (a Smith family trait), Sue loved to be on the lake with a fishing rod in her hand, a love she passed down to her family.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 23rd at 4 PM at the King Funeral Home, 2370 N. 72nd Ave., Hart, MI 49420. Visitations will be Sunday, from 6 to 8 PM. The family welcomes flowers or a gift to the American National Cancer Society or a charity of your choice in Susan Misner's memory. A reception will be held at the VFW Hall in Hart, 802 S State St, Hart, MI 49420 immediately following the Memorial service. Interment will take be at Mt. Ulysses Cemetery in Crystal Valley next spring.
