Vanden Heuvel
August 29, 1923 – April 21, 2019
Theda Mae Vanden Heuvel, 95, of Hart, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2019, at the Oceana Medical Care Facility in Hart. Theda was born August 29, 1923, in Crystal Valley, the daughter of Francis "Ed" and Maria (Allen) Cummins.
Theda graduated from Hart High School in 1942, attended Oceana County Normal, and taught for 8 years. She married Joseph Vanden Heuvel July 24, 1948, at St. Joseph Weare Catholic Church. Theda was a faithful member of St. Joseph Altar Society and had served on the Parish Council.
Theda was an avid reader and a fantastic cook. She had many hobbies, including sewing, quilting, solving crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and playing cards. Theda was a loving neighbor, friend, and loyal Detroit Tigers fan. She was very active in her family and enjoyed staying involved with all her nieces and nephews and their families.
Theda is survived by: her husband, Joseph Vanden Heuvel; children, Arthur Vanden Heuvel of Crystal Valley, Donald (Beth) Vanden Heuvel of Lansing, Julie Vanden Heuvel of Muskegon, and Sheila (Phil) DeHoag of Muskegon; granddaughters, Melissa (Bert Kochendorfer) Vanden Heuvel of Lansing and Amy (Mike) Wisniewski of DeWitt; grandson, Zachary DeHoag of Muskegon; great-granddaughter, Amelia Wisniewski; sisters, Frances Draggoo-Acuna of Fremont and Lucille Russell of Hart; and many loved nieces and nephews.
Theda was preceded in death by: her parents; son, Paul Vanden Heuvel; sister, Alta Clark; brother, Merton Cummins; sisters-in-law, Madonna Cummins, Evelyn Vanden Heuvel, Mary Powers, and Lorena Vanden Heuvel; and brothers-in-law, Marion Clark, Ben Russell, Frank Vanden Heuvel, Chris Vanden Heuvel, Abel Acuna, and Lloyd Draggoo.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, Thursday, April 25, 2019, at St. Joseph Weare Catholic Church, 2380 W Jackson Rd, Hart, with Father Phillip Sliwinski presiding. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until time of Mass at the church. Interment will take place in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Church Building Fund or the Crystal Valley Care Fund.
