Obituary

After a frustrating and courageous battle with cancer, Ted Hosner died on December 13, 2016, at his home on Lake Michigan with family by his side. Ted was 83 years old. He leaves behind his wife of 63 years Mary; his three daughters, Beth (Joe), Heather (Pete), and Heidi (Kipp); his two sons, Terry (Karen) and Thad (Jen), along with 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Ted was born on July 5 th , 1933 in Mt. Clemens Michigan to Emer and Leona Hosner. He grew up in a progressive, hardworking family with one sister Judi (George) and one brother Bob. High school in Romeo Michigan was an exciting time for Ted, producing 16 varsity sports letters and his girl on his arm. Ted married Mary Dorn on September 13, 1953. They then moved to Kalamazoo so Ted could finish college, graduating from Western Michigan in 1956 with a teaching degree. By 1958 they had their first two children and had taken a teaching job in Kaiserslautern Germany. Over the next 39 years Ted taught and coached on five different European military bases and six different schools and universities in Michigan, touching the lives of thousands of kids and adults alike.

Ted loved to do anything adventurous, athletic, or just plain fun, that he and Mary could come up with. They traveled most of the world, hiking and skiing mountain peaks, swimming in oceans and in natural hot springs. The only other thing Ted liked more than an adventure with his family, was to tell stories and make people laugh. Ted was a true listener as well, always making a person feel important and worthy.   If you were lucky enough to know Ted Hosner, you know how much this dynamic person will be missed.

A celebration of Ted's life will be held summer 2017. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Hart Public Schools Athletic Department at 300 west Johnson Street, Hart, MI 49420.
