IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Theresa
Garvin
June 23, 1924 – September 16, 2023
On September 16, 2023, our dear, sweet, gentle mother was carried to heaven by angels. Theresa (Schettek) Garvin, age 99, passed away at Munson Medical Center. Theresa was born June 23, 1924, in Maple City to Josephine (Schopieray) and Frank Schettek Sr. Theresa married Anthony Garvin at St. Rita's Church in Maple City October 27, 1951.
Theresa was a stay-at-home mom in Maple City for most of her life, raising her children, tending the flowers and garden. She worked outside of the home for a few years at Nish-Na-Be after her children were grown. She was a quiet woman of few words. She found joy and peace in the simple pleasures of life like warm summer nights, listening to the birds, admiring trees, family visits, and sunsets. Theresa always accepted and appreciated what she had without complaining and took joy in making others feel special (including animals). When Tony passed, she moved to Joygivers in Traverse City.
Theresa is survived and missed by her four children, David (Cheryl) Garvin, Traverse City, Mary (Cameron Garst) Socha, Maple City, Margaret (Steve) Snider, Key West, FL, and Lawrence Garvin, Maple City. Grandchildren, Kimberly (Paul Hart) Byrd, Christopher (Alysha) Garvin, Brent (Amy) Garvin, and Jodi (Ryan Schmelling) Garvin; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Paxton Byrd, Bryce, Rhett and Briella Garvin, Vivian and Elliana Garvin, and Mason and Madelyn Schmelling. She is also survived by her sister, Frances (Harold) Lautner, brothers-in-law Roman, Alex (Jean), and Stanley; sisters-in-law Betty (Edgar) Newell, Maxine (Ben) Taylor, Frances Mills, and Josephine Bozar.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband, Tony in 2010, infant daughter Catherine, son-in-law, Paul Socha, brothers, Frank Jr., Ben, and Harry, and sister, Betty Rhodes.
We would like to thank the staff at Joygivers for many years of loving care and Munson for their wonderful care this last week.
Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, Thursday, September 21, 2023, at St. Rita-St. Joseph Parish, in Maple City, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM.
