Thomas King Bruun, 74, of Northlake, Illinois, passed away suddenly September 12, 2022. Tom was born June 1, 1948, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of John King and Harriett (Sis) Lewis Bruun. Tom grew up in Oak Park, Illinois, spending his summers with his family at the summer home in Muskegon, MI, and at the Culver Military Academy in Culver, Indiana. Tom attended the Robert Morris Jr. College obtaining an associate degree. Shortly thereafter he joined the Union Pacific Railroad in Chicago and served 44 years as a distinguished engineer before retiring in 2018.
Tom loved the old Western TV shows, in particular he enjoyed Bonanza and Gunsmoke. Tom was an avid sports fan and loved to watch football. He loved his sweet treats and attending live music, in particular Rick Lindy and the Wild Ones, Tommy Foster, and Buddy Popps. Tom shared a strong love and bond with both of his dogs, Chelsea and Rocky.
Tom is survived by: his loving wife, Karen Bruun; brothers, John (Theresa) Bruun and Edward (Lisa) Bruun; sister-in-law Joanne Bruun; daughter, Christine Bruun; step-children, Michelle Ciancio, Michael (Stephanie) Ciancio, and Marcella Ciancio; and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Tom was preceded in death by: his parents, John King and Harriett Lewis Bruun; brother, Robert Bruun; and son, Michael Bruun.
A prayer service and Celebration of Life will be held Friday, September 30, 2022, at Ki's restaurant, 705 North Avenue, Glendale Heights, Illinois 60139, beginning at 1:00 PM.
