Obituary

Thomas "Tom" Emmett Snyder, 93, of Traverse City, passed away Monday, May 3, 2021 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.  He was born January 17, 1928, in Lansing, Michigan, the son of Emmett and Pearl (Hartman) Snyder.

He was raised in South Bend, Indiana, and graduated from Riley High School.  He married Robbye Leigh Iglehart, in South Bend, and they enjoyed 42 years of marriage.  Robbye preceded him in death in 1991.  Tom and Robbye raised their family in Chicago, Illinois, and Garden City, Michigan.  They enjoyed spending family vacations at their lake house in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Tom retired from management at the Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, Michigan, in 1990.  He was devoted to his family, hard-working, and lived life to the fullest. He always had a positive outlook and a fun story to share with family and friends. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, classical music, and loved spending time with his family.

He married Gayle Ann (Norris) in Marquette, Michigan, on Sept. 4, 1993, and the couple eventually made their way to reside in Traverse City.  They enjoyed spending time at the lake house and spent several winters in Las Vegas, Nevada.

He is survived by:  his wife, Gayle; children, Pam Pettit, Jill Del Cid, Timothy Snyder; grandchildren, David (Jeanne) Pettit, Carrie (Doug) Eyre, and Timothy Snyder; and step-children, Noreen (Todd) Shafer, Lisa (Dave) Miller, and Sandy (Stan) Suchey.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters, and his parents.

Per his wishes, cremation has taken place, and his ashes will be buried at South Lawn Cemetery, in South Bend, Indiana.

Beacon Cremation and Funeral Service, Covell-Traverse City Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
