Obituary

Thomas Bruce Shatney, 87, of Muskegon, formerly of Hesperia, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family.

A 1957 graduate of Hesperia High School, Tom worked for 30 years at Sealed Power as an iron pourer, a job he truly enjoyed. He was a proud UAW member, active Knight of Columbus, and a devoted member of Christ the King Church.

Tom had a lifelong love of the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also enjoyed gardening and trapping. He had a passion for traveling, taking trips near and far by train, plane, bus, car, and ship. After retirement, he spent many happy years in Gulf Shores, Alabama and Florida.

Above all, Tom was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Family was the center of his life, and he will be remembered for his humor, his storytelling, and the joy he brought to those around him.

Tom is survived by: his wife of 67 years, Carol (Fairchild) Shatney; daughter, Kimberly (Larry Range) Salacina; son, Kevin (Amy) Shatney; sisters, Sonja (Bill) Dykstra and Candy (Ed) Chase; grandchildren, Alissa Wyant, Adam Wyant, Nicole (Jeff Gable) Shatney, Cody (Kaitlyn) Shatney, Angela (Keith) Rock, Jeremy Shatney (Rachel), Heather Shatney (Matt), Hunter (Catherine) Shatney, and Felicia Shatney (Adolfo), step-grandchildren, Hannah Weinrick-Soros and Lexi Weinrick; son-in-law, Keith Genther; daughter-in-law, Sherry Shatney Meidema; brother-in-law, Thomas Fairchild and Rick Fairchild; sisters-in-law, Connie Fairchild and Vivian Rellinger; several nieces and nephews; as well as 24 great-grandchildren who loved him dearly.

Tom was preceded in death by: his parents, Jerome and Martha (Pastoor) Shatney; his brother, Barry Shatney; sister, Cheryl Shatney; son, Lee Shatney; daughter, Kelly (Keith) Genther; grandson, Eric Genther; great-grandchild, Kaydon Regnier; mother and father-in-law, Charles and Mabel Fairchild; and sister-in-law, Charlene Sartwell.

With faith to guide him, Tom has gone home to be with the Lord, reunited with the loved ones who went before him.
