IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Thomas Joseph
Spedding
February 4, 1946 – November 16, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Thomas (Tom) Spedding (77), a cherished member of our community, who left us on November 16, 2023. Tom was born on February 4, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan. As a child his family moved to Mullett Lake in Cheboygan, where he lived for the majority of his years.
Tom played High School Football for the Cheboygan Chiefs. He also raced boats for years and loved competing in the annual Top-O-Michigan Marathon race. Tom married his high school sweetheart, Kathleen Sullivan, and attended Ferris State University where he studied business and worked in a co-op program with General Motors. Eventually Tom and Kathy moved back to Cheboygan where Tom worked for Procter and Gamble. When the Cheboygan plant closed, he transferred to the Cincinnati headquarters, until his retirement. He then moved back to Cheboygan spending his retirement years enjoying his home on Mullett Lake and tinkering with his wooden boats.
Tom leaves behind his wife, Kathleen Sullivan, son Bittu (Marline) Spedding, daughter Jamie (Scott) Schuh and three grandchildren, Ethan and Brady Schuh and Faith Spedding. Tom loved his family more than anything and lived his life encouraging and supporting their pursuits.
Tom will be remembered as a wonderful father and grandfather and supportive husband. He was a big dog lover and always supported the local Humane Society. In lieu of flowers he would love his family and friends to donate to the Cheboygan County Humane Society.
A memorial gathering will be held to remember Tom on December 2, 2023, at Pier M33 restaurant from 1:00-3:00. Please join his family to share fond memories and celebrate a wonderful father, husband, grandfather and member of the Cheboygan community.
Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, Covell-Traverse City Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
