Thurlow Laverne Stagner, 93, of Montague, passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2017. Thurlow was born on February 1, 1924 to Lee and Lena Stagner in Oceana County near New Era.
Thurlow worked at Muskegon Piston Ring his entire career. He also started and maintained a radio and TV repair business on the side. He was able to retire in his mid 50's. In 1943 he married the former Dolly Sallgren and she preceded him in death in 1996. In 2000 he married Mary Cole.
Thurlow enjoyed model railroading and fly fishing. He also enjoyed reading about the Civil War and old Western novels. He was a quiet, reserved, strong-willed, soft-spoken man who will be deeply missed.
Thurlow is survived by his wife Mary; son, Eugene (Jane) Stagner; grandchildren: Valerie (Whitney) Cox, Jennifer (Mark) Mancini, Amy Stagner, Kimberly Stagner, and Julie Iscaro; great-grandchildren: Andrew, Shamina, Logan, Brenden, Caden, Mason, Reagen, Alexa, Quinton, and Alex; and step-children, Ruby Cole, Delores (Harold) Dijong and Jack (Carol) Cole.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Dolly Dee; twin sons, Ronald and Donald; sister, Methel Stagner and his parents.
A Funeral Service will be conducted 11AM on Monday, September 18, 2017 at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service 413 S. Mears Ave. Whitehall. Visitation will take place 1 hour prior to the start of the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society.
