We are sad to announce the passing of Valeria "Val" Ance, 82, of Lake Leelanau on Sunday, January 8, 2023. She was at the Munson Hospice House with her daughters by her side.  She was born October 9, 1940, in Lapeer County, the daughter of Paul and Doris (Gillies) Friedenstab. Val was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Val was very involved with 4-H and Leader Dogs for the Blind.  Some of her favorite things to do were reading, gardening, puzzles, sewing, traveling, and watching her birds. She had enormous swan and nutcracker collections and loved showing off her new additions. Val was very supportive of her daughters' activities, and their friends were treated as her own.

Val is survived by: her daughters, Ginger Hardy of Traverse City, Kay McKinley of Florida, Penny (Mark) Tunnicliff of Iron Mountain, Ellen (Matt) Ellis, Barbi Ance and Crissi (Wosgi) Campos all of Traverse City; her Grandchildren, Matthew Ance, Max Tunnicliff, Alex Tunnicliff, Adam Tunnicliff, Abe Tunnicliff, Taylor Carew, Dawson Peek, Mitchell Brien, Griffin Brien, Duncan Callaghan, and Isabelle Campos; and Great-Grandchildren, Truett Carew, Tannon Carew, and Leo Peek.

Val was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband Marvin Ance; her seven brothers; granddaughter, Anne (Tunnicliff) Hansen; and her beloved poodle, Sugar.

An immediate, private service will be held and graveside services will take place summer 2023.

We acknowledge and thank Munson B4 and the Munson Hospice House for the care and attention Val received in her final days. In lieu of flowers, donations would be welcome for the Munson Hospice House.
