In loving memory of our Mother and Grandmother, Vera Helen Nickerson (nee Morgan)

Vera was born to Jack and Zada (nee Davis) Morgan on Wednesday, March 27, 1929 in Blair Township, Michigan (near Traverse City). Vera passed away August 4, 2026 at the Grand Traverse Pavilions where she resided for the last few months of her life.

On June 20, 1947, she married the love of her life, Roger (Pete) Alan Nickerson. They were married 62 years until his death in 2009. Their loving marriage quickly produced three children – Valinda Jean, David Alan and Peter Roger who were raised in Kingsley.

Vera was very active in her community, church and her children’s school and generously volunteered in all. Vera and Pete’s home always was welcoming to family and friends, including her childrens’ friends. She and Pete attended their sons’ athletic events and Pete coached Little League. They attended many, many band performances where two of their children were talented musicians (one not so much). Their sons also were very talented athletes in high school as were many of her grandchildren.

Vera loved knitting and completed beautiful sweaters for all ten of her grandchildren for their first birthdays. For many years, she provided hand-knitted mittens for children in her daughter-in-law’s kindergarten class.

Vera has been a member of the Kingsley United Methodist Church since April 1944 and Roger joined her there after their marriage. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, honoring her ancestor, Samuel Barto, Vermont. She was employed for many years in health care as a medical secretary, Munson Medical Center.

Vera is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sons David and Peter, daughter-in-law Vicki Lynn (Allen) Nickerson, grandson Jason Shane Nickerson, four brothers and one very young sister. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Valinda and Kenneth Bilbrey, daughter-in-law Pamela (Beagle) Nickerson, nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild (one more is expected) as well as many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will celebrate Vera on October 3, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Kingsley United Methodist Church, 113 Blair Street, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM.  A luncheon will follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Friends of the Kingsley Library Childrens’ Reading Section, which is named after Vera and Pete, the Kingsley United Methodist Church, or The Rock Youth Center in Kingsley.
