Mrs. Vergie Ann Niva, age 98, died January 24, 2008. She was born in Walkerville, MI on December 17, 1909 to Orel and Zorelda (Hershberger) Perry. She married Arthur Niva on December 16, 1948 and he preceded her in death on January 7, 1975. Vergie was employed as a cook at Muskegon High School for 20 years, retiring in 1975. She was a former member of the Samuel Lutheran Church in Muskegon. Following her retirement, she was a volunteer with the American Red Cross for many years. Her interests included crafts, sewing, knitting, crochet, tatting and flower gardening. She was also active in Girl Scouts with her daughter. Vergie is survived by her daughter, Debbie (Ron) VanKersen of Coldwater; two grandchildren, Jeff (Heidi) VanKersen of Imlay City and Beth VanKersen of Coldwater; three great grandchildren, Hannah, Jaxon and Collin; brother, George (Evelyn) Perry of Pentwater, MI. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Fleta VanTassell and two brothers, Max and Ralph Perry. The Funeral Service will be held Monday, January 28, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. from the Tate-King Funeral Home with the Rev. Philip Norstrand officiating. Interment in the Hart Cemetery.
