Mr. Vernon R. Hasty, age 90, died Wednesday, March 19, 2008. He was born in Weare Township on June 27, 1917 to Beldon M. and Bertha L. (Hale) Hasty. Vern married the former Avis E. Haenke on June 5, 1939 in Holland, MI. He was employed as a machinist at Teledyne Continental Motors in Muskegon until his retirement in 1979. Vern also was a truck driver for Fenton Trucking. He was a former member of the Wigton Masonic Lodge F & AM. Vern and his wife Avis spent many years grafting fruit trees for area farmers and were also called by many in western and northern Michigan to ply this specialized and tedious procedure. Most of all they loved their children and their children loved them in return. Dad will be missed by all who knew him, a kind and gentle soul.
Vern is survived by his daughter, Priscilla Verne Dennison of Hart, son, Beldon Paul Hasty of Hart, son in law, Jerome Showalter of Onekama, MI, daughter in law, Deloris Hasty of Hart; grandchildren, Steve (Sharon) Dennison, Susan (Axel) Johnson, Janie (Charlie Dietz) Dennison, Paul (Angie) Dennison, Mikael (Jamie) Dennison, Scott Gale, Greg (Teri) Gale, Lori (Melvin) Cebula, Charlene (John) DeRosia, Troy Gale, Sandy (Linda) Showalter and Shane (Vicky) Hasty; 30 great grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren; brother, Wayne (Doris) Hasty of Spring Lake, MI; sister in law, Phyllis Hasty of Saugatuck, MI; several nieces , nephews and cousins; "adopted son", David W. Malmquist of Rancho Mirage, CA; "Good Buddy", Dick Bursley of Hart and good friend Germaine Owens of Hart. He was preceded in death by his wife Avis, son, Gary L. Hasty, daughter, Cheryl Gale Showalter, grandson, Vernon Dennison, great grandson Dwayne Dennison, son in law, Robert Eugene Dennison. He was also preceded in death by 5 brothers and 3 sisters. The Funeral Service for Mr. Hasty will be held Thursday, March 27, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. from the Hart Congregational Church with Pastor Lorraine Boucon officiating. Interment will be in the Hart Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday from 5-9 P.M. at the Tate-King Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Hart Congregational Church or the Oceana County Medical Care Facility.
