Versil L. Larsen went home to the arms of Our Lord on Friday, December 11, 2015. He was born in April 1924, to Rasmus and Anna Marie (Rasmussen) Larsen in Lakeview, Michigan. He served our country in the Army during World War II where he was stationed in Europe for two years and helped to close "cigarette" camps after the war. After returning home, Versil was employed in auto parts sales at several dealerships and later took training under the G.I. Bill to become a Power Engineer. He then worked for Ferris State University for over 20 years. At Ferris, Versil was instrumental in establishing an on-the-job training program for employees to upgrade their positions. After retirement, He and Phyllis wintered in Arizona for eighteen years and traveled to many points of interest in the U.S. and Europe. Versil also enjoyed watching Tigers baseball, fishing and playing cards with his grandchildren.He was an active member of the Methodist Church in Amble, Northland, and Ludington. Versil served as a lay church leader in Amble and taught Sunday school and youth group. He was also active in 4-H in Montcalm county. Versil is survived by his wife, Phyllis, of 66 years and his children, Bonnie (Don) Koolen, Viann (Peter) Priniski, Janise (Steven) Aubry, and Nicholas (Debbie) Larsen. He has ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Leona Granzo, Thelma Clark, Elfreda Card, Clara Finerty, Marjean Drier, Leonard Larsen, Leland Larsen, and Gerald Larsen.Versil will always be remembered for his kind and gentle heart; he loved his family, God and his country to the end. A memorial service will be held in April, 2016.
