Vincent Max
Smith
Jan 8, 1951 — Jul 17, 2026
Buckley
Vincent "Vince" Max Smith, 75, of Buckley, died Friday, July 17, 2026, at home. He was born January 8, 1951, in Traverse City, the son of Floyd Max and Anna Mae (Schichtel) Smith.
Vince was the eldest of eight children and lived in his family home his entire life. He lived a long and full life. He was a beloved member of the community and a helper to all. He took good care of his mother her entire life and cared for numerous members of the community. He could always be counted on to mow a neighbor's grass or run errands and was often seen riding his bike around town or going for long walks, usually to collect pop bottles.
In his spare time, Vince loved to watch (and re-watch) Westerns. He loved going out to eat, especially to Cracker Barrell. He enjoyed reading cookbooks, usually to talk loved ones into making him certain dishes; meatloaf was always a hit with Vince. He also loved watching the birds, especially hummingbirds.
Vince is survived by: his siblings, Raymond Smith of Traverse City, Dinell Cooper of Kingsley, Bernie Cole (Steve) of Traverse City, Mabel Schopieray of Buckley, Mary Hansen (Mickey) of Buckley, Floyd Smith (Adrienne) of Buckley and Judy Smith of Buckley; godfather, Gerald Schichtel; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Vince was preceded in death by: his parents; sister-in-law, Sandra Smith; godmother, Kathy Yuresko; nephew, Chris Hansen; aunt, Helen Hancock; brother-in-law, Dan Schopieray; and nephew, Danny Todd Schopieray.
A Mass is being planned. Details will be posted soon.
Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, Covell-Kingsley Chapel, is in charge of arrangeements.
