Wendell (Jay) Chester Lawrence Jr. was born on April 9, 1937 in Detroit, Michigan to Wendell Chester Lawrence Sr. and Enid Berniece (Reynolds) Lawrence. He passed away on September 28, 2024 at MediLodge of Traverse City, Michigan.

Wendell worked at Chrysler Corporation in Detroit for several years and then became a truck driver, working for Bates Casket Company in Michigan. Then he became a night Manager for his friend's store. Later he became a cross-country truck driver for an art company, finally driving cross country for Crete Carrier Corporation.  His good work record was acknowledged with several awards including the Million Mile award and multiple safe driving awards, before he finally retired.

Wendell was preceded in death by his Mother Enid, Father Wendell Sr., brother David Lawrence, brother-in-law and lifetime friend Tommy Maynard, brother-in-law David Mathia and his lifelong friend Jimmy.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Barbara, sisters Linda (Walter) Campbell, Wendy Maynard, sons Bradley (Linda) Lawrence and Brian Lawrence, daughters Megan (Tyler) Long and Ann-Marie (Brian) Bishop, as well as his grandchildren who were his pride and joy: Kurt, Ryan, Rachel, Shane, Jacob, Evan, Tiffani, Marcus and Emma, his great grandchildren Aubrey, Emory, Parker, Caden, Logan and one due in April 2025. He also leaves behind his loving dog, Gracie.

Wendell's family would like to thank the nurses, aides and staff at MediLodge of Traverse City for the wonderful care they provided him over the last 13 months.

A short interment service is planned for October 19, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church Columbarium with a lunch immediately following in the church hall. Please let Megan know if you plan to attend.
