ELK RAPIDS – William H. "Bill" Coburn, 97, of Elk Rapids, died September 30, 2022.
Bill was born in Detroit to William and Barbara Cockburn (Coburn). He graduated from Detroit's Thomas M. Cooley High School.
Bill served in World War II as a mechanic with the 115th Liaison Squadron of the United States Army Air Corps in India and Burma. After receiving an honorable discharge, he graduated with a degree in Business Administration from the Detroit Institute of Technology.
He enjoyed coaching his sons in youth hockey, watching the Tigers and Red Wings, playing golf, and remaining active in the Episcopal Church.
He was the husband of the late Barbara Coburn, sharing over 54 years together; loving father to Bill (Linda) Coburn, Douglas (Margaret) Coburn, and Jim (Judy) Coburn; proud grandfather to Anne, Chelsea, Christopher, Clare, and Colin; great grandfather to Abigail and Nora; dear brother to the late Nora (Grant) Price and the late Elaine Morell.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Friday, October 7, 2022, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 403 Traverse Street, Elk Rapids, with Father Derek Quinn officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, in Elk Rapids, with military honors conducted under the auspices of AmVets Post #114 of Elk Rapids. Visitation will be held from 5-8 PM, Thursday, October 6, 2022, at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, Covell-Elk Rapids Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to Boys Town.
