William Garvie Hall ("Garvie") passed away peacefully on July 1, 2026, at his beloved cottage overlooking White Lake in West Michigan, just weeks shy of his 94th birthday.

Born in Hilo, Hawaii, on July 29, 1932, to Donald and Gladys Hall, Garvie was a fourth-generation kamaāina. Raised on Hawaii Island, he carried that connection with him throughout his life, even as his journey took him across the Pacific and the mainland. He attended Phillips Exeter Academy and graduated from Stanford University. Traveling across the country alone as a young man by ship, train, and plane helped shape the independence, resilience, and confidence that defined his life.

Garvie proudly served in the United States Navy in the Pacific, including time in Japan. After returning to Hawaii, he built a distinguished career in Hawaii's sugar industry. He began at Līhue Plantation in Līhue, later served as manager of Pioneer Mill in Lahaina, then as manager of Oahu Sugar Company in Waipahu, before joining Hāmākua Sugar Company.

In 1986, Garvie and the love of his life, Wendy Gill Hall, relocated to Lakeland, Florida, where he founded Citrus Partners, supplying citrus to Tropicana and other leading juice companies. After selling the business, he established Hui Ohana, a real estate holding company that reflected his lifelong belief in the importance of family.

Garvie loved to work and took pride in everything he did. During his years in Florida, he became known for cultivating some of the state's finest citrus groves. He often reminded his children to "think before taking action" and to "take one step forward without taking two steps backward," words that reflected the thoughtful and disciplined way he lived.

Although he embraced the communities of Lakeland and White Lake, his heart never left Hawaii. His love of Hawaiian music and the spirit of aloha remained with him throughout his life and were evident in the kindness, humility, and generosity he extended to everyone he met.

Garvie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife, Wendy; his children Neil (Denise) Hall, Don Hall, daughter-in-law Christine Hall, Colleen (Randy) Grune, Carolyn (Greg) Moss; Wendy's children Rob (Heather) Kelso and Evan (Sarah) Kelso; and son-in-law Tony Hinson. He is also survived by his eight grandsons: Matt (Elana) Hall, Kevin (Morgan) Hall, Jeff (Anna) Hall, Hobey Moss, Ben Hinson, Sam Hinson, Carter Kelso, and Cole Kelso; five great-grandchildren, all of whom affectionately knew him as "Pops"; and many extended family members and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Gladys Hall; his sister, Janet Hall Chamberland; his son, Owen Hall; and his stepdaughter, Elisabeth Hinson.

The Hall family extends heartfelt gratitude to Faith Bloodsworth, Dennis Martin, Elonia Lucas, and Chris Faircloth, whose compassionate care, friendship, and unwavering dedication over the past three years allowed Garvie to remain at home with dignity and comfort. They became far more than caregivers—they became trusted companions and cherished members of his extended family. The family will forever be grateful for the kindness, devotion, and exceptional care they provided each day.

Garvie will be remembered for his integrity, quiet wisdom, unwavering work ethic, and deep love for his family.
