June 9, 1942 – September 27, 2016
Mr. William Henry Riggs, age 74, of Mears, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2016, at Mercy Health Partners Mercy Campus in Muskegon. He was born June 9, 1942, in Golden Township to Frank and Florence (Estepp) Riggs. He was a high school graduate and he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1961-1967. Bill married Cindy Norman on March 12, 1976 at St. Gregory Catholic Church in Hart. They were married forty years. He was employed as a school bus driver with the Oceana Intermediate School, the Bee-C Clean Sweep, and was also a cattle rancher. He was a member of the Department of Michigan Marine Corps League, Oceana Detachment. Bill loved spending time teaching his grandson Mitchell, they hunted, fished, and played baseball. Mitchell was his pride and joy in life. Eating out, at the Golden Eatery was a favorite pastime as well as meeting 'The Boys' for coffee at Wilson's. Bill loved his family and time spent together, and his cows. He also enjoyed trips to visit family in Florida too.
William is survived by his wife, Cindy L.(Norman) Riggs; daughter, Erin Riggs of Mears; grandson, Mitchell Slade of Mears; three sisters, LaVon (Dick) Lamphere of NM, LaVerle Youngstrom of NM, Nancy Beggs of Greenville; two brothers, Jerry Riggs of Manistee, and David (Linda) Riggs of White Cloud. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Eric Riggs; four sisters, Susan Riggs, June Riggs, Virginia Hindman, Janet Schaner; two brothers, Jack Riggs, and Stanley Riggs.
The Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Riggs will be offered Friday, September 30, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Gregory Catholic Church in Hart with Father Thomas Bolster presiding. Interment will be in Hart Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at St. Gregory Catholic Church, 316 South Peach Street, Hart, MI.
The family requests that any memorials be directed to the Crystal Valley Care Fund, P.O. Box 451, Hart, MI 49420.
