Obituary

Mr. William R. Smith, age 69 of Hart, died Saturday, April 3, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born February 13, 1941 in Hart to Keith H. and Lydia "Mary" (Jensen) Smith. Bill was a 1960 Hart High School graduate and had been employed at Campbell, Wyant and Canon in Muskegon and Stokeley's in Hart, and for 32 years, he was employed at Bennett Pump in Muskegon. On October 26, 1963, he married Linda L. Johnson at the Crystal Valley United Methodist Church. Bill was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing and was former member of the Pentwater Sport Fishing Association. He loved to visit with people on the telephone. He will be remembered by many as a kind hearted and generous person, but you were also expected to "tow the line" with Bill. He is survived by his children, Steven R. (Karen) Smith of Montague and Sheri (Fred) Walker of Fremont, MI; 5 grandchildren, Amy (Brandon) Bolling of Howell, MI, Jeff Lipka of Montague, Lacie Dodds of Lake Orion, MI, Megan Dodds of Walkerville, Zachary Dodds of Walkerville; 1 great granddaughter, Emma Rose Bolling; 2 brothers, Eugene (Sue) Smith of Irons, MI, George (Linda) Smith of Grant; 2 sisters, Susan Misner of Walkerville, Patricia "Pat" Bromley of Hart; his special friend, Joyce Alvesteffer of Hart; sister in law, Elaine Smith of Crystal Valley; brother in law, Jim Wilson of Grand Rapids; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Linda L. Smith on October 28, 2007, son, Robert Smith on August 5, 1983, 4 brothers, John, Orson, Charles and Carson Smith, 2 sisters, Leona Wilson, Sandra Smith, 1 brother in law, Bernard Bromley. The Funeral Service for Mr. Smith will be held Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. from the Tate-King Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Bromley and Mr. Craig Cooper officiating. Interment will be in the Elbridge Township Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. and Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Crystal Valley Care Fund or Harbor Hospice.
